Baptism

What is baptism all about?

Baptism is a personal statement of faith, not a tradition. It doesn't make you a believer; it shows that you already are one! Baptism doesn't "save" you, only your faith in Jesus can do that. Baptism is a public declaration that you are identifying yourself with Jesus Christ.

Frequently Asked Questions

I was baptized as a baby. Why do I need to be baptized again?

When you were sprinkled as a baby, that was a commitment that your parent(s) made; your baptism now will be an expression of your adult commitment to Christ. Throughout the book of Acts, the Bible shows this pattern: hearing the gospel, believing and repenting, and then getting baptized.

I was baptized before I really turned my life to Christ. Should I be baptized again?

Yes, you should. The Bible says to repent, believe, and then be baptized.

I was baptized at another church. Do I need to get baptized by Calvary now that I attend here?

No, you do not need to be baptized again, assuming that you were truly committed to Christ and were baptized in obedience to the Biblical directive, and it was a Christian church. Your baptism symbolically professed your membership in the Body of Christ, not a specific church or denomination.

I don't attend Calvary. Will you baptize me?

It depends. It usually makes sense to be baptized by the pastors or elders of the church you attend. Please contact us to discuss any special circumstances (for example, you are an out of town visitor who got saved at our church and would like to be baptized here before returning home).

I am re-dedicating my life to Christ. Should I be baptized again?

If your original baptism was a Christian baptism in obedience to the Biblical directive, there is no need to be baptized again.

I have a physical disability and cannot safely be immersed. Is there another way I can be baptized?

God cares about your heart, not the exact mechanics of the baptism. Let us know your circumstances, and we will find a safe way to baptize you.

What should I wear to the baptism?

Please dress modestly. Appropriate bathing suits or shorts, and a t-shirt (or other covering) is typical.

How long does the baptism last?

Our baptisms usually last an hour.

Do I need to register or sign up for the baptism?

Yes. Sign up for your campus at the links above.

Who can come to our baptisms?

Everyone! Bring family and friends. Let them witness your joy and take pictures.
