1 Thessalonians 4:9-10 Now about your love for one another we do not need
to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.
10 And in fact, you
do love all of God’s family throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers and
sisters, to do so more and more,
·
Love the church.
·
Sanctification: the process of becoming
holy (like Jesus).
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that
whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
·
Phileo: Brotherly love and is most often
exhibited in close friendship, best friends.
1 Samuel 18:1-3 “After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in
spirit with David, and he loved him as himself…And Jonathan made a covenant
with David because he loved him as himself”
·
Agape:
unconditional and sacrificial love.
Romans 5:8 (NLT) But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us
while we were still sinners.
·
Three ways our love goes:
·
1. Our love shows. (Rom. 12:10)
·
2. Our love goes. (Eph. 5:2)
·
3. Our love grows. (1 Thess. 3:12)
John 13:34-35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you
must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one
another.”
·
1. Pray for the church. Phil. 1:3-6
·
2. Encourage the church. 1 Thess. 5:11
·
3. Give to the church. 1 Cor. 16:2-3
1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us.
1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life:
You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told
you, 12 so
that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not
be dependent on anybody.

Make it your ambition to:
·
Lead a quiet life.
·
Mind your own business.
·
Work with your hands.
Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the
name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be
uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the
rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and
so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in
him. 15 According
to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until
the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen
asleep. 16 For
the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the
voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ
will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up
together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be
with the Lord forever.

Look towards Jesus and eternity.
·
Hope: the confident expectation that God
is faithful to do what He says.
1 Corinthians 15:13-22 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not
even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is
useless and so is your faith… 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not
been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in
your sins. 18 Then
those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost…20 But Christ has indeed been
raised from the dead, the first of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came
through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22
For as in Adam all
die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
·
What is the rapture?: The transhistorical
global gathering of all believers everywhere
·
How will the rapture happen?:
Instantaneously.
1 Corinthians 15:51-52 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep,
but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last
trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and
we will be changed.
·
Why will the rapture happen?: For God to
remove (save) the church from the earth so that His wrath can be poured out on
a rebellious world.
·
Wrath: Gods visible displeasure of sin.
(Judgement)
·
When will the rapture happen?: At any
time.
1 Thessalonians 5:9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to
receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:9 Since [Jesus saved us] how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath
through him!
1 Thessalonians 4:18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
