1 Thessalonians 5:1-2 Now (Look Back), brothers and sisters, about times
and dates we do not need to write to you, 2 for you know very well that the day of the
Lord will come like a thief in the night.
Matthew 24:42-44 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will
come. 43 But
understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the
thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be
broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour
when you do not expect him.
·
Them/they = those who do not know the Lord
·
We/us = the church (those who know Jesus)
1 Thessalonians 5:3-6 While people are saying, “Peace and safety,”
destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and
they will not escape. 4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day
should surprise you like a thief. 5 You are all children of the light and children of
the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6 So then, let us not be
like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.
1 Peter 5:8-9 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a
roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith,
·
As
believers, we are to live everyday with an eternal focus. In a world of
darkness and distraction- we must stay in the light and remain alert.
1 John 2:28 And now, children, stay with Christ. Live deeply in Christ. Then we’ll be
ready for him when he appears, ready to receive him with open arms, with no
cause for red-faced guilt or lame excuses when he arrives.
1 Thessalonians 5:7-8 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who
get drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober,
putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a
helmet.
·
As believers, we must share our faith and love
with others.
·
As believers, knowing that we have been saved
provides us with hope for our future.
1 Thessalonians 5:9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to
receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Colossians 1:27-29 God's plan is to make known his secret to his
people, this rich and glorious secret which he has for all peoples. And the
secret is that Christ is in you, which means that you will share in the glory
of God. 28 So
we preach Christ to everyone. With all possible wisdom we warn and teach them
in order to bring each one into God's presence as a mature individual in union
with Christ. 29 To get this done I toil and struggle, using the mighty strength which
Christ supplies and which is at work in me.
Ephesians 2:8-10 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit
for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we
have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created
us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long
ago.
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
·
All THINGS!!!
1 Thessalonians 5:10-11 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or
asleep, we may live together with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other
up, just as in fact you are doing.
·
To encourage is to give courage
·
To discourage is to take courage away
·
As believers, we are to encourage and build up
our brothers and sisters because we are stronger together.
