Living in Peace

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. 13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.

·         1. Live in peace with spiritual leaders

Hebrews 13:7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.

·         What can you do for your spiritual leaders?

·         Pray for them

·         Partner with us in serving the Lord and His people

·         Provide resources to help accomplish the mission

·         Preserve peace through unity

1 Thessalonians 5:14-15 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.

·         2.   Live in peace with other Christ-followers

·         We need to speak the truth in love.

·         Warren Wiersbe: “Truth without love is brutality, and love without truth is hypocrisy.”

Romans 12:17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

·         3. Live with internal peace

John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

1 Thessalonians 5:19 Do not quench the Spirit.

·         4. Live at peace with God

·         Quench the Spirit: Not doing what God wants us to do

·         Grieve the Spirit: Doing what God doesn’t want us to do

1 Thessalonians 5:20-22 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil.

Acts 17:11 Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

·         H – Humility

·          I – Integrity

·         S – Spirit-filled

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.

John 3:30 He must become greater; I must become less.

1 Thessalonians 5:25-28 Brothers and sisters, pray for us. 26 Greet all God’s people with a holy kiss. 27 I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers and sisters. 28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
