As we finish the 2nd half of 1 Timothy 5, we will learn about spiritual leaders, our role in the church and the importance of purity in our character.

1 Timothy 5:17-18 The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double
honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching. 18 For Scripture says, “Do
not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,” and “The worker deserves
his wages.”
·
Encourage and pray for your spiritual leaders
Hebrews 13:17-18 Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because
they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that
their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.
Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live
honorably in every way.
1 Timothy 5:19 Do not entertain an accusation against an elder unless it is brought by
two or three witnesses.
·
We are
only one bad decision away from huge consequences
1 Timothy 5:20 But those elders who are sinning you are to reprove before
everyone, so that the others may take warning.
·
Trust is
built slowly but can be lost quickly
James 3:1-2 Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you
know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. We all stumble in many
ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep
their whole body in check.
1 Timothy 5:21 I charge you, in the sight of God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels,
to keep these instructions without partiality, and to do nothing out of
favoritism.
·
Leaders must lead with integrity and humility,
accountable to God and people
1 Timothy 5:22 Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, and do not share in the
sins of others. Keep yourself pure.
Hebrews 13:4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for
God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person
commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own
body.
·
God ordains, we just recognize what God has
already done.
1 Timothy 5:23-25 Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach
and your frequent illnesses. 24 The sins of some are obvious, reaching the place of
judgment ahead of them; the sins of others trail behind them. 25 In the same way, good
deeds are obvious, and even those that are not obvious cannot remain hidden
forever.
Numbers 32:23 “But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the Lord; and you
may be sure that your sin will find you out.
·
Our good deeds should shine brightly for the
Lord
Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see
your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
