In the last half of 2 Timothy 3 we see Paul encouraging Timothy with the importance of scripture and how it equips us in righteous living. We will study why we can trust God’s Word for us and how to endure hardships and persecutions because of the Gospel.

2 Timothy 3:10-11 You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of
life, my
purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, 11 persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things
happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet
the Lord rescued me from all of them.
·
Our
Private and Public life should match
Acts 14:19-22 Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They
stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead. But after
the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city.
The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe. They preached the gospel in that
city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium
and Antioch, strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to
the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,”
they said.
·
Endure
hardships by remembering God is with and for us
2 Timothy 3:12-13 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be
persecuted, 13 while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving
and being deceived.
1 Peter 2:23 When they hurled their insults at Him, He did not retaliate; when He
suffered, He made no threats. Instead, He entrusted Himself to Him who judges
justly.
·
When
persecuted, don’t attack back. Trust God to be your defender.
Romans 16:17-18 I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause
divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you
have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord
Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive
the minds of naive people.
2 Timothy 3:14-15 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become
convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15
and how from
infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you
wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
