1 Corinthians 6:1-3 If any of you has a dispute with another, do you
dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s
people? 2 Or
do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to
judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? 3 Do you not know that we
will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!
·
Suing a fellow believer is inconsistent because
of our future responsibilities.
John 13:35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one
another.
· Two
future responsibilities:
·
1. We will judge the world.
·
2. We will judge angels.
2 Timothy 2:11-12a This is a trustworthy saying: If we died with Him,
we will also live with Him; if we endure, we will also reign with Him;
Revelation 3:21 To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my
throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.
· Biblical
Purpose of Angels:
·
To serve Gods people: Hebrews 1:14
·
To be Gods messengers: Luke 1:26
·
To wage spiritual battles: Daniel 10:10-14
·
To worship God: Psalm 148:1-2
·
To carry out judgment: Revelation 7
·
To spread Gods Word: Hebrews 2:2
· Resolving
Disputes:
·
Choose to resolve Biblically. Matthew 18:15-17
·
Choose to resolve peacefully. Romans 12:18
·
Choose to resolve in unity. John 17:21
·
Choose to resolve in light of eternity. 1 Cor. 6:3
1 Corinthians 6:4-8 Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters,
do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church?
5 I say this to
shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a
dispute between believers? 6 But instead, one brother takes another to court—and this in front of
unbelievers! 7 The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been
completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be
cheated? 8
Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers
and sisters.
·
Suing a fellow believer is inconsistent with how
the church should work.
Romans 11:11-12 Again I ask: Did they (Israel) stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not
at all! Rather, because of their (Israel) transgression, salvation has come to
the Gentiles to make Israel envious. 12 But if their transgression means riches for the
world, and their loss [defeat] means riches for the Gentiles, how much greater
riches will their full inclusion bring!
1 Corinthians 2:15 The spiritual person makes judgements about all
things.
1 Corinthians 5:12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it
not those inside the church whom you are to judge?
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit
the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor
idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10 nor thieves nor the greedy
nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11 And that is what
some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified
in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
·
Suing a fellow believer is inconsistent with our
new life in Christ.
Matthew 15:8-9 “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from
me. 9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’
· Suing
a fellow believer is:
·
Inconsistent with our future responsibilities.
·
Inconsistent with how the church should work.
·
Inconsistent with our new life in Christ.
Romans 14:10,12 For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat…So then, each of us will
give an account of ourselves to God.
1 John 2:2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also
for the sins of the whole world.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that
whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 5:24 “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me
has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to
life.
James 2:12-13 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives
freedom because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been
merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
Romans 3:24,28 And all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that
came by Christ Jesus. For we maintain
that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.
