1 Corinthians 7:1-5 Now for the matters you wrote about: “It is good for
a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” 2 But since sexual
immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own
wife, and each woman with her own husband. 3 The husband should fulfill his marital duty
to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4 The wife does not have
authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the
husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife.
5 Do not deprive
each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may
devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not
tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

The pursuit of purity matters in our
relationships.
1 Corinthians 7:6-9 I say this as a concession, not as a command.
7 I wish that all of
you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this
gift, another has that. 8 Now to the unmarried[a] and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay
unmarried, as I do. 9 But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is
better to marry than to burn with passion.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 It is God’s will that you
should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should
learn to control your own body[a] in a way that is holy and honorable, 5
not in passionate
lust like the pagans, who do not know God; 6 and that in this matter no one should wrong
or take advantage of a brother or sister.[b] The Lord will punish all those who
commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before. 7 For God did not call us to
be impure, but to live a holy life. 8 Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does
not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.

God’s design is for intimacy to develop
partnership and prayer
Genesis 1:27-28 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created
them; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and
increase in number;..
Genesis 2:22-25 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man,
and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and
flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” 24
That is why a man
leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one
flesh. 25 Adam
and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
Matthew 19:5 Haven’t you read? ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother
and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.
1 Corinthians 7:10-16 To the married I give this command (not I, but the
Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. 11 But if she does, she must
remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not
divorce his wife. 12 To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If any brother has a wife who
is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her.
13 And if a woman
has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she
must not divorce him. 14 For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the
unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise
your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. 15 But if the unbeliever
leaves, let it be so. The brother or the sister is not bound in such
circumstances; God has called us to live in peace. 16 How do you know, wife,
whether you will save your husband? Or, how do you know, husband, whether you
will save your wife?
· Gods design is for marriage to last until
death do us part
Matthew 19:4-9 “Haven’t you read,” Jesus replied, “that at the beginning God ‘made them
male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be
united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two,
but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
7 “Why then,” they
asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and
send her away?” 8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your
hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9 I tell you that anyone who
divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman
commits adultery.”

Hard Heart: Inability to see, hear, understand,
and remember.

Causes: unconfessed and unrepented sin. “Gospel
Graduate mindset.”
2 Corinthians 6:14 (NLT) Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How
can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with
darkness?
1 Corinthians 7:17-24 Nevertheless, each person should live as a believer
in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called
them. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. 18 Was a man already
circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man
uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised. 19 Circumcision is nothing
and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God’s commands is what counts. 20
Each person should
remain in the situation they were in when God called them. 21 Were you a slave when you
were called? Don’t let it trouble you—although if you can gain your freedom, do
so. 22 For
the one who was a slave when called to faith in the Lord is the Lord’s freed
person; similarly, the one who was free when called is Christ’s slave. 23
You were bought at a
price; do not become slaves of human beings. 24 Brothers and sisters, each person, as
responsible to God, should remain in the situation they were in when God called
them.

God desires we live for Him with contentment
through our circumstance.
Philippians 4:10-14 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you
renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no
opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be
content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it
is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every
situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
13 I can do all this
through him who gives me strength. 14 Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles.
