Immutability means that God is unchangeable in
his character, will, and covenant promises.
Jeremiah 23:19 God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should
change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not
fulfill?

In his book, Knowing God,
J.I. Packer summarizes God’s immutable characteristics in these six ways:
·
1. God’s Life does not change
·
2. God’s Character does not change
·
3. God’s truth does not change
·
4. God’s ways do not change
·
5. God’s purposes do not change.
·
6. God’s son does not change.
·
Allistair Begg: “God is consistently
against sin and favorable towards repentance and faith; His character does not
change.”
·
C.H.Spurgeon: “God writes with a pen that
never blots, speaks with a tongue that never slips, acts with a hand that never
fails.”
