This weekend we will be reminded of the transformative power of God in changing lives, highlighting that believers are no longer slaves to their past sinful ways but are made new in Christ. We will reflect on the importance of honoring God with our bodies, as they are temples of the Holy Spirit.  Paul warns against using the freedom of choice to justify sinful behaviors.  The proper response to sin is repentance and embracing God's grace, which empowers believers to live in a way that reflects their identity in Christ and honors Him.

Vessels of Honor

·       We’ve been entrusted with a choice to either bring honor or dishonor to the name of Christ.

1 Corinthians 6:11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

·       Never believe the lie that you can’t change, because Jesus can change anyone.

1 Corinthians 6:12-13 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

·       Although God has given us freedom of choice, it doesn’t mean He approves of us doing whatever we want.

·       As Children of God, honor Him with your body!

Romans 12:1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

1 Corinthians 6:14-17 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”[b] 17 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.

·       Is Christ being Lord of our body good news or bad news?

1 Corinthians 6:18-20 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

·       Honoring God with our bodies demonstrates our love for Him, ourselves, and others.
