As we finish the book of 1 Timothy, Paul will summarize his prior instructions to Timothy. He will remind us of some key things to pursue and give us a strong warning about some things to flee from.

1 Timothy 6:11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

·         Main Point #1: PURSUE righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness by asking the Holy Spirit to GIVE THEM to you!

·         What to “Flee From” (1 Timothy 6:4)

·         Conceit (pride)

·         An “unhealthy interest” in controversies and quarrels

·         Words that result in envy, strife, and evil suspicions

·         (V10) The love of money, not from having money

1 Timothy 6:12a Fight the good fight of the faith.  

·         Main Point #2: Don’t let Satan discourage you when you lose A BATTLE. You can still win the war by asking for God’s help.

1 Timothy 6:12b-13 Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession,

·         Jesus “good confession” to Pilate

·         I am the King Of Heaven (King of Eternal Life)

·         God is sovereign. He is in control and all powerful

·         I submit myself to God the Father’s will 

1 Timothy 6:13-14… I charge you 14 to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,

·         Main Point #3: Keep Fighting! No matter how hard your life gets, HOLD ON to God’s promise of eternal life!

1 Timothy 6:15a which God will bring about in his own time

Mark 13:32-33 But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.

Mark 13:36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping.

1 Timothy 6:15b-17 God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen. 17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

Philippians 4:12-13 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

·         Main Point #4: Put your HOPE in God. Everything in our world is uncertain, but God and Heaven are ETERNAL!

1 Timothy 6:18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7 Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

 1 Timothy 6:19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

·         Main Point #5: Giving guards our heart and keeps our greed in check. Being like Jesus means being a cheerful giver.   

1 Timothy 6:20a Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care.

·          What we’ve been entrusted to DO:

·         Go make disciples (Matthew 28:19)

·         Study God’s Word (Joshua 1:8)

·         Gather together (Hebrews 10:24-25)

·         Live a Godly life (1 Peter 1:14-16)

·         Be generous, be a giver (2 Corinthians 9:6-7)

·         Tell others about Jesus (Acts 1:8)

1 Timothy 6:20b-21a Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, 21a which some have professed and in so doing have departed from the faith.

 Romans 14:12 So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.

1 Timothy 6:21b Grace be with you all.
