Disciple: Someone who knows and follows
Jesus, is becoming more like Jesus, is doing the things Jesus did and is
helping others do the same.
Titus 2:1 You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine.

A disciple lives out God’s truth in every aspect
of their daily lives.
Titus 1:5 The reason I left you in Crete was that you might put in order what was
left unfinished and appoint elders…
Titus 1:13,16… rebuke them so that they will be sound in faith…16 They [unsound] claim to
know God but deny Him by their actions.

Rebuke: Stop doing that.

Correction: Start doing this.
Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you.
Titus 2:2-10 Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled,
and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. 3 Likewise, teach the older women to be
reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine,
but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children,
5 to be
self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to
their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. 6 Similarly, encourage the
young men to be self-controlled. 7 In everything set them an example by doing what is
good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness 8 and soundness of speech
that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because
they have nothing bad to say about us. 9 Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in
everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, 10 and not to steal from
them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they
will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.

A healthy disciple intentionally grows in
godliness and guides others toward spiritual maturity in Christ.
2 Peter 1:6 (KJV) “…make every effort to add to your faith… knowledge; and to knowledge,
temperance; and to temperance, patience; and to patience godliness…”
Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise
wisdom and instruction.
John 13:35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one
another.
1 Corinthians 13:1,4-8
I will show you the
most excellent way. What makes love excellent? What does healthy love look it?
(…) Love is patient, love is kind. It
does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor
others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs. 6 Love
does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always
trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.
John 13:1 Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to
the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the
end.

Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.
12 It teaches us to
say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled,
upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the
appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to
redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his
very own, eager to do what is good.

As disciples, we allow the grace of God to shape
our lives and our journey.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not
from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

Grace: Gods unmerited favor and Gods
power for living.
John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the
world, love for the Father is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the
flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father
but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God
lives forever.
Titus 2:15 These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with
all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.
