Why is it Called Good?

Good Friday 2020

·         Why is Good Friday called GOOD? Because the “RESULTS” of Christ’s death are GOOD

·         1) It is GOOD because Jesus came for us and died for us

Luke 23:33-35 When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals-one on his right, the other on his left.  34 Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."  And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. 35 The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, "He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen one."

Matthew 20:28 (NLT) For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Luke 23:36-37 The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37 and said, "If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself."

·         2) Jesus loves us deeply- that is GOOD

Luke 23:38-39 There was a written notice above him, which read: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 39 one of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!"

·         3) It is GOOD because Christ was the perfect sacrifice

2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT) For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin (to be sin for us), so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

John 19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

·         Jesus died with a shout of triumph on His lips. He did not say, “It is finshisd ,” in weary defeat; He said it as one who shouts for joy because the victory is won.

·         4) It is GOOD because it is finished Forever

Luke 23:46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his last.

·         5) It is GOOD because Jesus Paid the Sinners Debt and it is Paid in FULL

Romans 5:12 (NLT) When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

Romans 5:18-19 (NLT) Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.

Luke 23:40-43 But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong." 42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." 43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."

·         Good Friday is a GREAT Friday if you are a Christ-follower

·         Bread- represents the Body of Jesus- Pray and Give thanks for what Jesus Did

1 Corinthians 11:24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me."

·         Cup- represents the blood of Christ- Thank him that our sins have been washed away

1 Corinthians 11:25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me."
