As prayer culture approaches next week, we think it is a great time to stop and reflect on prayer. What does Jesus say about it? How are prayer and God’s will related? What happens if God does not answer our prayers? These are just a few of the questions that will be answered as we search with in the scriptures and spend time getting refreshed and encouraged. We would love to have you join us for this special service.
Matthew 6:5-6 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
· Make time to pray in private; allowing your focus and heart to be centered on God
Matthew 6:7-8 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
· Jon Courson: “We don’t need to inform the Lord, nor convince the Lord. We just need to connect with the Lord.”
· Pray with a sincere heart, sharing with God what is troubling you. It’s more about your heart than your words.
Matthew 6:9 “This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
· Hallow= to regard as holy
· John Piper: “The hallowing of His name is an act of the heart, not just a regarding of the head, like the demons do, and not just the lifting of the hands like the Pharisees did, but the cherishing of his name above all things like Christians do.”
Hebrews 4:16 (ESV) Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Philippians 4:6-7 (ESV) Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Matthew 6:10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
· Pray for God’s will to be done and for His name to be glorified.
· Robert Law: “Prayer is a mighty instrument, not for getting man’s will done in heaven, but for getting God’s will done on earth.”
· Warren Wiersbe: “This prayer begins with God’s interests, not ours: God’s name, God’s kingdom, and God’s will. We have no right to ask God for anything that would dishonor His name, delay His kingdom, or disturb His will on earth.”
· Prayer is the God appointed way to have our needs met in a way that gives glory to God.
· God can use tragedy on earth to bring forth triumph in His Kingdom
Matthew 6:11-13 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
· Text YES to 321.574.6970 if you have chosen to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
