·         A.) Get Wisdom

·         B.) Get Understanding

·         2. What Solomon taught his son (verses 10-19)

·         A.) Get the Benefits of Wisdom

·         B.) Avoid Evil

·         3. Apply Wisdom's Lessons (verses 20-27)

·         A.) All things come from the heart

·         Max Lucado: “My father didn’t do anything unusual. He only did what dads are supposed to do — be there.”

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is God breathed, and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness

Proverbs 13:10 Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.

·         POINT 1:  Desire God’s wisdom and understanding, not man’s

Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Jeremiah 17:5 This is what the LORD says: "Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

2 Chronicles 1:10 Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?"

·         POINT 2:  Build God’s kingdom - not your own

Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

·         A Straight path to the Lord can be found by:

·         Looking to God

·         Fixing your eyes on Jesus

·         Walking toward Him

·         Listening to the Holy Spirit and obey

Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

·         POINT 3: Love the Father - obey his word by hiding it in your heart

Psalms 139:23-24 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

·         POINT 4: Only let into your heart those things you want to become.

Jeremiah 17:9-10 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? 10 "I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve."

1 John 2:15-16 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 16 For everything in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--comes not from the Father but from the world.

Matthew 12:34-37 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Luke 9:62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

1 Kings 11:9-10 The LORD became angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice. 10 Although he had forbidden Solomon to follow other gods, Solomon did not keep the LORD's command.

James 1:23-24 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

Romans 12:1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Psalms 127:3-5 Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. 4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. 5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.
