Repentance is a bridge from a state of sin to restoration with God. David demonstrates for us what a true heart of repentance looks like.

James 1:13-16 When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God
cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted
when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has
conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth
to death. 16 Don't
be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters.
Leviticus 20:10 (ESV) If a man commits adultery with the wife of his
neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.
Numbers 35:31, 33 (ESV) Moreover, you shall accept no ransom for the life of
a murderer, who is guilty of death, but he shall be put to death. 33 This will ensure that the land where you live will
not be polluted, for murder pollutes the land. And no sacrifice except the
execution of the murderer can purify the land from murder.
Acts 13:22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning
him: 'I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do
everything I want him to do.'

When we
sin, confession and repentance should be the first place we turn
Proverbs 28:13 (ESV) Whoever conceals his transgressions will not
prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
1 John 1:9 (ESV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
