The WHYs of Good Friday

Good Friday

·         WHY did God send Jesus to this world?

Matthew 20:28 (NLT) For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Romans 5:12 (NLT) When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”

·         Why did Jesus have to go to the cross?

·         Why was Jesus Christ the perfect sacrifice?

2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT) For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin (to be sin for us), so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

·         Jesus had NO sin, yet He took my sin and all the sin of the world ON HIM.

·         Why is Good Friday called GOOD?

John 3:16-17 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

Luke 23:33-39 When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals-one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. 35 The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, "He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen one." 36 The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37 and said, "If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself." 38 There was a written notice above him, which read: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 39 one of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!"

John 19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

·         William Barclay: Jesus died with a shout of triumph on His lips. He did not say, “It is finshisd,” in weary defeat; He said it as one who shouts for joy because the victory is won.

Romans 5:18-19 (NLT) Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.

·         Jesus’s Victory is MY Victory

Luke 23:46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his last.

John 10:18 “No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily”.

·         Why doesn’t everyone believe in Jesus?

2 Corinthians 4:4 “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.”

Luke 23:40-43 But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong." 42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." 43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."

1 Corinthians 11:23-26 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me."  26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.

·         Bread- represents the Body of Jesus- Pray and Give thanks for what Jesus Did

·         Cup- represents the blood of Christ- Thank him that our sins have been washed away

·         Thank you, Jesus for what you have done for me and others
